Happy Monday, Wonderful People of TMSA Apex Community!

Please allow me to cheer you up on this Monday afternoon. Our Elementary Science Olympiad Teams got 1st and 2nd places last Saturday at the NC Science Olympiad Durham Regionals!

Two weeks ago, I shared the remarkable results of our middle school teams, and now it's time to celebrate our elementary school teams.

For the second consecutive year, we have achieved outstanding success. Our Varsity team got 2nd place overall, while the Junior Varsity team seized the coveted 1st place spot.

Elementary competition ends here, there is no state competition. But, across all 15 events, our students showcased remarkable talent and dedication. I am proud of all the participants and happy that their hard work paid off.

I also want to thank our advisors, Ms. Maria and Ms. Rao, who tirelessly support our students week in and week out.

For those who might be mistaking Science Fair for Science Olympiad like myself, I have provided a helpful comparison below:

NC Science Fair

  • organized by North Carolina Science Fair Foundation, affiliate of the renowned Society for Science's International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)

  • Each year, 10 regions in North Carolina compete at the regionals. Winners move on to the state tournament.

  • State-level winners then have the chance to compete nationally in the Society for Science’s Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge for grades 5-8 and the Regeneron ISEF for grades 9-12.

NC Science Olympiad

  • organized by NC State University

  • NC Elementary Schools compete with each other in Division A.

  • NC Middle and High Schools compete with each other in Division B and C.

  • Division B and C teams can be invited to the Invitationals to sharpen their skills before the state tournament.

  • Qualified teams compete at the State Tournament.

  • Finally, Science Olympiad competitions at the national level.

Please congratulate our young scientists whenever you see them.

Looking forward to sharing with you more great news. Have a great week!
